The Director of the Pedvāle Open-Air Art Museum Ojārs Feldbergs and the curator Laura Miglone visited the Changchun World Sculpture Park in China from 10 January to 12 January to participate in the conference organized by the International Sculpture Park Union.
During the conference the representatives of the Pedvāle Open Air-Art Museum got acquainted with the Changchun World Sculpture Park exhibition and its operating principles, presented the Pedvāle Open-Air Art Museum, as well as gave a presentation on tourism development opportunities in sculpture parks in the world. During the conference the constitution of the International Sculpture Park Union was adopted, and the management of the Union was elected as well. Gertrud Aeschlimann, representing the Art-st-Urban Sculpture Park in Lucerne, Switzerland, took over the management of the Union from the first Sculpture Park Union President, the Chinese Wang Mingshan (the curator of the Changchun World Sculpture Park), whereas the Chinese representative Wang Xuezhan was elected Secretary-General of the Union.
The International Sculpture Park Union was founded on 4 September, 2014, in Changchun, China. The founding document was signed by 6 sculpture parks: the Changchun World Sculpture Park (People’s Republic of China), Art-st-urban (Switzerland), Beddington Fine Art Gallery Gardens (France), the Chianti Sculpture Park (Italy), the Pedvāle Open-Air Art Museum (Latvia) and the Middelheim Open Air Sculpture Museum (Belgium). The main activities of the Union are exhibition exchange, information exchange and promotion of the union members, organization of seminars and conferences to share experience in sculpture park management and marketing areas, as well as to share practical and theoretical experience with countries that wish to establish sculpture parks.
