From 16 March to 26 April 2026, the exhibition hall of Pedvāle International Artists’ Residency hosts the textile exhibition “Windows” by Inese Jakobi (Latvia).
About the concept of the exhibition, I. Jakobi explains:
“We are all neighbours – close or distant. Each of us has our own understanding, rhythm of life, and traditions. How can we coexist on one planet?
For several decades, the theme and form of my work has been the window. It serves as a metaphor for a bridge or, conversely, a boundary between the interior and the exterior, between the individual and society.
Windows reflect both our immediate surroundings and distant horizons. We often look into them as if into a mirror, asking ourselves whether we belong in this environment, in this moment.
It seems that throughout history, people have flirted with death, sometimes with disturbing lightness and even shocking irresponsibility.
In my work, I use fabrics with a history – once fashionable, desired, used, and later discarded as unnecessary. They travel across continents in search of a place to rest, even if only for a moment, much like in the film “The Dress”.”
Inese Jakobi graduated from the Textile Art Department of the Art Academy of Latvia – BA in 1975 and MA in 2003. She has participated in exhibitions since 1969, has been a member of the Artists’ Union of Latvia since 1980, and is a member of the Latvian Textile Art Association. Her works are held in collections of Latvian art institutions, in a private collection in Norway, and have been exhibited in Europe, Scandinavia, and Canada.
